Course Overview

Even with planning and measures put in place, disaster do still occur; man-made, technological and natural disasters. The Emergency and Disaster Management (EDM) course equips delegates in the management, emergency planning, hazard mitigation and preparedness, disaster response and recovery from these disasters and helps in the strengthening of the capacity of individuals to reduce the impact of disasters through enhancing their knowledge and skills to promote and adopt disaster reduction practices as an integral part of the development process at company, community, national, sub regional and regional levels. It provides a range of learning opportunities to disaster managers who wish to include knowledge of disaster management in their ongoing professional development. The course provides participants with a regional, national and international perspective on disaster management. Aside natural disasters, special emphasis is placed on the specific disaster profile of critical sectors like catastrophic release of dangerous substances from the oil and gas, offshore, maritime activities; collapse of telecommunication masts, aircraft, building and construction mishaps, industrial and manufacturing disasters, health epidemics etc . It also addresses regional/country and issues relating to vulnerability and risk assessment, prevention, mitigation, preparedness, rehabilitation and reconstruction and relevant legislation.

Unit EDM 2

Individual Project work involving designing an emergency disaster plan for their company.

EXAM STRUCTURE

Unit EDM1: To achieve competence students will complete two
hours written confirmation test or a e portal project.

Unit EDM2: Project work to be submitted 3 weeks after completion of
training.
